This dark green felt-like baize fabric measures
4 1/2" x 7" and is just a small representation of
a very large piece in the collection. It is purported to have
been on the Titanic, taken as a souvenir by a merchant seaman
before the maiden voyage while in Belfast, Ireland.
Based on evidence, there were many places
this fabric may have been used. Some possibilities include the
first-class smoking room, the captain's, doctor's or other officials
desktop or from one of the few sets of double swinging corridor
doors. It was more than likely a leftover or soon-to-be-used
piece of a gaming or card table as depicted in the 1997 movie
Titanic or in an artist's rendition below.
